- Ge 1:1 ¶ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
The first verse is a summary of the whole Bible. It is the purpose of God that he is known as the creator of all. But there is only one 'all' and it has two parts; the heavens and the earth. The pair 'heavens and earth' is used more than 30 times in scripture and it defines the number two. Any pair of things will have a heavenly or spiritual side and an earthly or physical side.
